Where do we turn when life tumbles in and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel? What resources are available when death stares us in the face pointing its bony finger? What happens when the underpinning of life begins to crumble and the house we thought would stand forever begins to lean? Who is our Savior when sin overtakes us with its horrible ability to enslave us? Where does faith come from when God seems to be on the other side of our problems? How do we keep on keeping on when keeping on leads us to a pointless frustration?

These are legitmate questions which flow from hearts that are craving answers. It is not easy asking such questions, but at times it seems to be a need for each of us. It is important to ask the tough questions even though we know there are no perfect answers. Life does not fit into neat little categories where everything that happens has a simplistic explanation. The Bible is not an answer book which holds precise instructions for every circumstance. It yields its wisdom to people of faith who have made a commitment to God's kind of life.

Christian people also have questions about unanswerable mysteries. We live in a wild, raw, unfinished world which stretches our imagination and calls for our best spiritual and mental energy. With God as our guide we can walk through the valley of troubled times, but the journey will not be without its anxiety. Our inability to know all there is to know and to do all there is to do about a given situation is cause for many tough questions.

The positive side of this issue is that our struggle with the unexplainable keeps us humble and dependent on God. Our inability to cope with every crisis helps us accept our human status. We turn to Him who is the author and finisher of our faith. Our ability to ask the tough questions and wrestle with life's perplexities is what salvation is all about. Only those who yearn for a Savior will find Him. In doing so, we discover that what is less than perfect can be loved as though it were perfect. While perfect answers may never come, relief does come in leaning on the everlasting arms.
