SUPERNATURAL POWER

Sometimes there emerges a surge of religious fervor in which the Holy Spirit becomes a subject of great interest.  Books are written, sermons are preached and songs are sung which accent the flow of God's power into our lives.  The thrust of such an emphasis is on the conscious indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  The possibility that God can abide within us is an exciting truth of many dimensions.  We need to hear this word not only periodically, but often, because it is at the heart of what it means to be in Christ.  In the soul of every serious Christian there should be a desire for the filling of the Holy Spirit.

There is a sober concern, however, about this spiritual ambition.  Why should God fill us with His spirit if we have no plans to be involved in His kingdom? Could it be that the reason so few folk are conscious of His indwelling power is that they do nothing to require it? Only as we commit ourselves to tasks that are bigger than ourselves can we qualify for divine assistance.  Only as we leap ahead in faith is our faith enhanced for the journey.

God is not going to equip us with supernatural power until we accept some supernatural assignment.  The Holy Spirit will not do for us what we can do for ourselves.  Neither will He participate in those religious projects which are designed to accent the genius of man rather that the glory of God.  God wants us to do our best.  He wants us to yield ourselves in humble submission to the calling of our lives.  Then He energizes us with a Godly disposition and a wholesome ambition to serve others.  Servant people are a spirit-filled people whose greatest reward is the Lord's reminder, "Lo I am with you always." Is there anything happening in your life which you cannot explain apart from the Holy Spirit?
