Mother's Day comes again to call attention to that special person in our birthing process. It is fitting that we celebrate this maternal contribution to our existence. We would be uncivilized to ignore the worth of womanhood in our mental, spiritual and physical development. "Mother" is a special word in the human vocabulary because it defines a person as well as a process ordained by God.
In His wisdom, God created male and female with their obvious roles and unique investment in the divine dream. Today, we honor the femaleness of life by calling it Mother's Day. In the family of God, there is a place for tenderness, tears and femininity at its best. Womanhood has always had a strategic place in the plan of God. Mothers of the Bible and of Christian history have had an unbelievable influence on the character of their times. The Holy Spirit has used maternal instinct as a force for spirituality in our world.
The motherhood of life cannot be ignored by a male-oriented society. It contributes to the loving fatherhood of God as a product of His grace. While all women are not biological mothers, all women are called to spiritual maternityhood. Women are equipped with a special evangelistic finesse that can be used mightily of God. Their teachable natures enable them to be effective teachers. Their submissive love creates the climate for a Godly servanthood. Their capacity for compassion is a motivation for missionary zeal. Their potential for persistence keeps the church moving toward Godly goals.
Therefore, let us never minimize the feminine contribution to the cause of Christ. The real truth here is that in Christ Jesus, all women can be mothers if they are participating the parenting process of the children of God. Today, let us celebrate the gift of motherhood, both spiritual and biological because both male and female are created in the image of God.
