Healing

AP.jpg Healing is a significant aspect of our Christian ministry.  As we study the life of Jesus and the early church, we note strong attention toward people with physical and mental ailments.  Apparently our Lord expects His people to have a similar compassion today.  We do not have to be physicians or medical personnel to participate in the healing process.  We do so by communicating a caring disposition.  We contribute to one another's health in a variety of ways.

In fact, it is possible for us to have a negative influence on one another's well-being.  Some people make us sick, not because they seek to do so.  It is the kind of personality which they flaunt.  They irritate us with attitudes which are contrary to our set of values.  Their hostile natures create tension within us.  Often, we allow such folk to nauseate us when, in reality, they need our sympathy.  We permit some cantankerous souls to get to us because of our own poor self image.

On the other hand, there are people who make us well.  Their very presence is a positive force upon our lives.  Their conversation gives us a sense of personal worth.  They are not always negative about life's situations.  They do not require us to participate in gossipy dialogue.  People who contribute to our good health are not argumentative, but encourage us with kind words.  They do not assume an attitude of spiritual superiority, but give humble and gracious guidance.  These folk help us through the storms of life without our ever feeling that we are forever in their debt.

Yes, healing is a vital part of our Christian lifestyle.  We have the awesome capacity either to heal or hurt those with whom we share life.  Surely it is the will of the Heavenly Father that we join the Great Physician in helping to create a cure for life's ailments.  May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts cause healing to happen.
