Diversity is a fascinating feature of human life. It is intriguing how God has created variety among those made in His own image. Surely it must be for His own pleasure that we reflect those unique characteristics which make us different. Had God wanted robots He was quite capable of making us emotionally, mentally and physically alike. In His wisdom and for His glory He has created no identical sets of fingerprints nor has He made two faces exactly alike.
From the obvious diversity among us we must assume that God intends for us to bloom where we have been planted and to express the fragrance that is naturally ours. We sin against His purpose when we parrot the ideas of others without allowing our own creative ingenuity to work. We blaspheme the Holy Spirit when we ignore His ability to do a good work within us as if we did not know our bodies were His temple. The plan of God is perverted when we try to get everyone else to fit our mold of thought and activity. There are many members in this body of God with each person called to make a special contribution. Lest we violate His grace we must humbly invest our diversity into His unity.
God forbid that we look down our spiritual noses on any child of God who struggles with his or her identity. As Christians we can always accept as much uniqueness as our confidence in Christ permits. Therefore, let whosoever will come and drink of the water of life freely without harassment and without shame.
